Nail Changes
Fact: Elevated liver enzymes, such as alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST), can indicate liver damage. However, normal enzyme levels do not always guarantee a healthy liver, as significant damage can occur without noticeable changes in these markers.

Different forms of liver disease can have a significant impact on the nails. In one research study aimed at documenting novel nail irregularities in patients with liver disease, it was discovered that 68 percent of the participants from the patient group exhibited changes in their nails. This was in comparison to a 35 percent occurrence rate in the control group. The most prevalent condition was a nail infection known as onychomycosis. Other observed changes encompassed longitudinal ridges, brittle nails, finger clubbing, and nails that were thickened, misshapen, or discolored.
